Human Resources Development Project

The Community Futures Development Corporation Human Resources Project was initiated in 2008 in an attempt to develop an understanding of the Human Resource needs of small businesses within the Southern Region British Columbia. The initial phase of the project included the administration of a brief survey which addressed specific issues regarding the Human Resource practices of individual small businesses. Through extensive analysis of the surveys, it was determined the five most important areas for improvement in the area of Human Resources including hiring and motivating Generation Y (employees aged 16-24 years), aspects of employment law, how to engage employees within the job atmosphere, innovative advertising for targeting specific employment candidates, and competency-based interviewing.

The second phase of the project provided complimentary seminars that address the five specific Human Resource concerns. Ongoing human resource development training and resources will continue to be made available.

Additional human resource development programs have subsequently been developed to help businesses strenthen their organizations through HR improvements. Through a national pilot project, Community Futures' have received a Human Resource Toolkit that provides the foundation for ongoing HR programs that will be offered at the local level. A local HR consultant has been trained as a facilitator for programming based on the HR Toolkit that will be made available to the public on a regular basis.
