The Community Futures Development Corporation of the Central Okanagan is a community based organization funded by Western Economic Diversification Canada and from the Province of British Columbia through the labor market development agreement with the Federal Government. Programs are governed by a volunteer board of local business people and community leaders. CFDC contributes to the social and economic well being of the Central Okanagan by providing small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs access to services tailored to individual needs. From financing to training programs, CFDC is a full support centre for new and existing businesses. The Central Okanagan office was founded in 1990. To date, we have received $2.45 million in loan funds. We have made over 675 loans for a total of over $12 million to help start or expand businesses in the Central Okanagan. Through our Self-Employment Program we have helped over 1300 people start new enterprises in this region, and have worked closely with them during their first year of start-up. Through the loans and self-employment programs, we have also helped create and maintain over 3600 jobs.
